Thinking about a new website or a redesign of your existing one, and wondering what it really takes? Here is our process for designing and developing a website, so you know how we work and what to expect from conception to completion.
Building a website involves several steps: gathering the initial information, creating the site, launching it and maintaining it afterwards.
The 5 Steps to a Website for Your Business
1. Initial Meeting
This is by far the most important step. You tell us your goals, the purpose of the website and the features you want. The more detail you give us, the more accurate our work. Explain your business, values and vision, define your target audience and describe the look and feel you want to communicate. Then we turn to the technical side: a static website, a blog, a video series? Do you want to sell products or services online? We also plan the structure so that search engines and AI systems can find and understand your content from the start. So do not be shy. Share as much as you can.
If you do not have a brand yet, consider commissioning your logo and matching branding as part of the package. It usually works out better to get everything from one source, but if you only need the website, just tell us.
2. Second Meeting: Quote and Contract
Once we have gathered this information, we prepare a quote and explain it in a second meeting, at our office, at another convenient place or by video call. It is important that you understand what is included and what is not. Once we agree, we send the contract. Unless agreed otherwise in the quote, payment is split as follows: 50% on order confirmation, 25% on approval of a key milestone such as the design, and 25% on completion, before launch. At this point you have decided to work with us. Trust us and give us the creative freedom to do our best work.
3. Planning and Design
This is where the fun begins, at least for us. Based on the brief from step 1, we research and outline the concept. Then our graphic team creates the web design. We present one design: the one that fits your needs best, and we explain the idea behind it. It works like a good restaurant: you tell the chef what you like and trust them to cook it. If a detail is not quite right, you say so and we adjust. Each project includes the number of revision rounds set out in the quote. To keep the project on schedule, we ask for your feedback within five working days, as set out in our terms.
4. Web Development
Once you approve the design, our coding team takes over. This is where we go behind the scenes to bring your requirements and the designer’s vision to life, with clean, fast, bespoke code. We usually start with basic sample content so you can see how the website looks and works. If we are updating an existing website, we migrate the existing content. During this step, the website runs on a test server, not on a live host. Only you and we can access it.
5. Website Launch
When the technical part is done, we present a beta version. You can get familiar with it, test it and add real content. If you wish, INMEDIA can help with editing content for an hourly fee. If there are major issues, now is the time to fix them. Once functionality and technology are confirmed, the website goes live, after the final payment. After launch, changes outside the agreed scope count as extras and are billed at an hourly rate.
After the Launch: Keep It Running
Some clients think that once the website is done, there is nothing more to do. But like any asset, a website needs regular maintenance. INMEDIA can help with periodic updates, keep your website active with blog posts and optimise it for SEO and AI search, so it stays visible on Google and in AI answers.
